The Tour de Cure Story
After finishing a ride back in October 2006, Geoff Coombes and Gary Bertwistle shared a coffee and chatted. As the chat went on, the topic turned to how they could combine their passion for cycling and contributing to a worthwhile charity.What started as a coffee between two mates led to Tour de Cure’s registration as an Australian charity and the inaugural tour, in May 2007. The Tour is now into its fourth year and has raised over $3.5 million.
Each year with community and corporate support, cyclists have battled the hills and weather!
Tour de Cure success is measured through three key areas:
Achievements through the funding of projects
* Research - to improve the treatment of and find a cure for cancer
* Support - those living with cancer, whether directly or indirectly
* Prevention - though education and awareness
Awareness of cancer and cancer statistics through media and events.
Ambassadors who give time, money and support to help make it all happen.
